THREE TO SEE (ideas for your day at the Salon)
Host an Arts A’Fair – Arts groups from Twin Cities present free shows every day at the Fair. Today in the North End, the Black Storytellers Alliance will perform at 10 a.m. and 10:45 a.m., and at 12:15 p.m. and 1 p.m. Mixed Precipitation presents its Pickup Truck Opera at 3 p.m., 3:45 p.m., 5:15 p.m. and 6 p.m. At the KSTP Heritage Plaza at West End Market, Collide Theatrical Dance Company performs at 10:30 am and 11:30 am, 1:30 pm; Duniya Drum and Dance is at 3:30 p.m., 4:30 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
We love it – The 4-H Llama and Alpaca Costume Contest has become so popular that it was moved to a larger building this year. The costumed creatures and their costumed masters can be found at the Warner Coliseum at 6 p.m.
Butterheads – The “Butterheads”, likenesses of Princess Kay’s dairy royalty and her butter-carved court, are nearing completion. The rotating refrigerated cooler sculpture started with Princess Kay on the first day of the fair, so there are now plenty of yellow sculptures to see around the corner of the dairy building. The journey of sculptor Linda Christensen is also drawing to a close. After 50 years of wielding the butter knife, this is his last at the Minnesota State Fair.
Music at the fair
In the gallery: Country star Tim McGraw returns to the gallery for the sixth time and the first since 2014. The 54-year-old Louisiana native’s No.1 hits include “Don’t Take the Girl,” J’adore “,” Unbroken “,” Live Like You’re Dying “,” Last Dollar (Fly Away) “,” Felt Good On My Lips “and” Humble and Kind “. Midland opens. 7:30 p.m.; $ 88 at $ 60.
Free at the Fair: The Legendary Wailers is one of two groups that bring the music of reggae icon Bob Marley to life. It is conducted by guitarist Julian “Junior” Marvin, who performed with Marley from 1977 until his death in 1981. 8:30 pm; Leinie Lodge Bandshell.
Attendance at the fair Monday was 91,568.
The Fair’s first Monday attendance record was 144,504, set in 2017. Attendance in 2019 was 96,716.
