Water from Maha, Vedanta-Foxconn project went to Guj when Fadnavis in power: Congress: Newsdrum

Nashik, Sep 18 (PTI) Congress on Sunday targeted Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis over the transfer of the Vedanta-Foxconn semiconductor project to Gujarat. State Unit Chairman Nana Patole alleged that water meant for the state was also diverted to the neighboring state when Fadnavis was the Chief Minister (2014 to 2019).

Speaking to reporters in Nashik, Patole said Congress would contest the state’s upcoming municipal corporation elections on its strength.

The Congress is a constituent of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) along with the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and the Shiv Sena.

“After coming to power in Maharashtra, the ED (Eknath Shinde-Devendra Fadnavis) government stopped the scholarship for OBC students. We do not accept the report of the Banthia Committee regarding the OBC community. The Center should carry out a census by caste,” Patole asked.

He alleged that projects like Vedanta-Foxconn were sent to Gujarat by the incumbent government of Maharashtra.

“Fadnavis served as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra from 2014 to 2019. During that time water from Maharashtra was diverted to Gujarat. Now during his tenure (as Deputy CM) a big project like Vedanta is went to Gujarat. We think the industries in Maharashtra should stay in the state and not go anywhere else,” Patole said.

He was in Nashik to attend a meeting of other backward class congress (OBC) cell officials and party workers from northern Maharashtra. “The ED government is an anti-democratic government and it won’t last long. The people witness everything, whether the state progresses or regresses. Congress is fighting for the people and it wants power for the people,” he said.

Patole said the BJP raises various allegations regarding Rahul Gandhi’s “Bharat Jodo” yatra but receives an overwhelming response, which is a sign that the scenario in the country is changing. Speaking about Congress’s decision to go solo in the upcoming civic body elections, Patole said it was the demand of party workers.

In Pune, the municipal unit of Congress announced that it would contest the upcoming municipal elections on its strength.

A meeting of the party’s Pune city district committee was held at the Bhavan Congress on Sunday.

Civic bodies in Mumbai, Pune, Nashik and several other districts are expected to go to the polls in the coming months. PTI COR ARU COR NSK NSK
