Voting is now open for the WROK Winter Team of the Week

Two local basketball teams have big wins over hardwood and one wrestling team makes their second appearance in our weekly poll.

Another big thank you to Rock Valley College for sponsoring this long winter competition.

Every weekend during the winter season we will be taking nominations for the team of the week. You can nominate a team from Friday afternoon to Sunday evening. Every Monday we will collect the nominations and then put them to a vote on the 1440wrok.com website.

The winning team will be announced during the morning show on WROK featuring RIley and Joe and will receive a $ 100 Visa card for their program. At the end of the season, all weekly winners will compete for the title of Team of the Season and receive a $ 500 Visa card for their program.

Here are the finalists for this week:

  • Rockford Lutheran Boy’s Basketball – The ‘Saders had two big wins over the weekend. First, they won hands down over Dixon on Friday night, a match you might have heard right here on 1440 WROK’s Friday Night Hoops. Then they hit the road and outscored Buffalo Grove, a much bigger school, by 30 points. Lutheran are a very good basketball team and should make a run in the playoffs.
  • Freeport Wrestling – Two of the Stateline’s best wrestling programs faced off this week when the Freeport Pretzels faced off against the East E-Rabs. It was the Pretzels who took the 40-39 victory. This is the second week in a row that the Bretzel grapplers have been vying for $ 100 and are expected to send plenty of players to the State Tournament.
  • Guilford Boy’s Basketball – It was a tough start to the season for the Vikings. They only had one win over the season before being forced to shut down for a week due to a COVID outbreak on the team. They finally returned to the field this week and toppled one of the top NIC-10 teams, the Hononegah Indians. A great victory for the Vikings to perhaps pass the course on a disappointing start to the season.

So who was the best last week? Vote below.
