Vancouver’s Halloween Beer Festival Features a Burlesque Monster

It’s not just a beer festival…

First there was the Rocky Horror Picture Showand now there is the Hopped Horror Beer Show.

Coming to the Croatian Cultural Center on October 21, the new version of a beer festival promises plenty of beers and lagers to try, as well as a fun night of Halloween-themed entertainment.

“It’s a Halloween party with monstrous burlesque and drinks,” says organizer Mike Willis (who recently hosted the Fruit Beer Festival). “It’s a place to not worry, let loose, dress up and watch a show.”

Unlike most beer festivals these days, this one won’t have a token system. Instead, it’s a one-time payment up front, as part of the entry ticket. Apart from unique beers, it also offers meads, ciders and soft drinks. But he makes sure it’s not a typical beer festival at the same time.

Notably, the entertainment will be unusual, with a monstrous burlesque show put on by local troupe the Geekenders, meaning Frankenstein and Dracula will be on stage. There will also be a live band playing 60s style surf rock.

There will also be a small market with local makers, including handcrafted table dice, jewelry, and a leather maker.

Willis also encourages people to dress up for the event, although it’s not a requirement.

He hopes if things go well it can be an annual event with bigger theatrical entertainment.

Tickets are on sale now with a capacity of 500 for the event.
