The Torrington Historical Society plans summer events


TORRINGTON — The Torrington Historical Society is set to present its Jazz in the Gardens summer concert series, beginning July 23 at 6:30 p.m. with New Chordtet Jazz.

The concerts will take place in the gardens of the Hotchkiss Fyler House Museum on the society grounds at 192 Main St.

The New Chordtet features Peter McEachern on trombone, Mike DiRubbo on saxophone, Dave Santoro on bass, Tom Melito on drums and Larry Ham on piano. Tickets start at $15.

The series continues at 6:30 p.m. on August 6 with the Adam Nussbaum Trio featuring Adam Nussbaum, Dave Santoro and Jerry Bergonzi. Nussbaum is considered one of the best drummers working today. He has played with a host of big names such as Michael and Randy Brecker, Gil Evans and Stan Getz.

The final concert is at 6:30 p.m. on August 26, featuring the Kris Jensen Jazz All Stars with vocalist Linda Ransom

Other programs

August 20: Outdoor painting with Janet Iffland, as part of the Creative Arts Festival, in the gardens of the Hotchkiss Fyler House museum.

Sept. 2: Virtual program with Nicholas Bellantoni, Connecticut State Archaeologist Emeritus, at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 21.

Oct. 12: Virtual program on Reverend Lemuel Haynes, first black man in the United States to be ordained minister, presented by John Saillant, 6:30 p.m.
