Soul Festival Celebrates Juneteenth in Downtown San Bernardino – San Bernardino Sun

0

Hundreds of people celebrated Juneteenth on Saturday, June 18 by enjoying live entertainment, soul food, and a variety of family fun at San Manuel Stadium in downtown San Bernardino.

The 2nd annual Juneteenth Soul Festival shined a light on black culture and featured black-owned businesses for the crowds marking the day in 1865 when slaves living in Galveston, Texas during the Civil War first learned that they were free.

The name combines June and nineteenth.

Established as a federal holiday last year, June 19 was declared a holiday in San Bernardino County last month.
