Sand Lake Festival will offer events for the whole family this weekend | Entertainment

NATIONAL TOWN – The Sand Lake Summer Family Festival, which was first introduced more than five decades ago, has long offered activities for people of all ages and interests. And that mix of fun will continue as the event enters its 54th year this weekend.

Presented by the Sand Lake Heights Men’s Association, the festival will span three days from Friday to Sunday, August 12-14. It will be hosted at 4059 Indian Lake Rd. in National City, with many activities taking place outside on the men’s association grounds and others inside the adjacent community center.

Along with several volunteers helping to organize the event and sponsors including WKJC 104.7 FM, this year’s festival chairs are Ed Fischer, India Wondero and Betty Parks.

The first event scheduled for Friday is the Retirees Day Meal sponsored by the Iosco County Commission on Aging. The cost is $3 and food will be served beginning at 11:30 a.m. Those interested in joining are asked to reserve their seats by 9 a.m. this Thursday (tomorrow), by calling Susan Dissmore at 469-9361.

A number of activities will then begin at noon on the first day of the 2022 event, whose slogan is “A family festival of community work”. These include a DJ, provided Justified Entertainment, until 6 p.m.; concessions that will be sold until 10 p.m. by That’s My Dawg; and a beer tent happy hour from noon to 4 p.m., during which beers will be $1.50 each.

After happy hour, the tent — only available to those 21 and older — will remain open until 1 a.m. on Friday and return to serve guests on other festival days. A button is required for entry, which can be purchased at the event site for $2.

Friday’s festivities will also include an euchre tournament, starting at 1 p.m. at the center. Walk-ins are welcome and more details are available by calling Roy Rief at 469-1024.

Big Wheel & Pull Tabs entertainment will continue from 4 p.m. to midnight, bingo at the community center will begin at 6 p.m., and the crowd is encouraged to dance once the group Opposite side take the stage, where they will perform from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Kicking things off on Saturday, August 13 is the annual Sand Lake Summer Family Festival Parade. Participants must line up at Eagle Park at 9 a.m., and the procession will depart from there at 10 a.m. The route will end in the center and should feature everything from cars, clowns and floats, to participants looking to win. the title of best, worst or most unusual golf cart.

Shortly after, starting at noon, event attendees will have many options to choose from. This includes the return of DJ Justified Entertainment, until 6 p.m.; the opening of the beer tent, which will be available until 1am; arts and crafts until dusk, for which questions can be directed to Wondero at 469-8040; That’s My Dawg concessions until 10 p.m.; and corn hole tournament entry.

The tournament itself will begin at 1 p.m. and the entry fee is $10 per person. For more details, contact Ron Quinkert at 734-292-7674.

Walk-in bingo, starting at noon, will continue until 8 p.m. and more information is available by calling Faron Wells at 979-308-9203.

Also starting at noon will be the sale of Firemen’s Famous Hamburgers, which is always one of the most anticipated offerings of the annual festival.

Grilled on site by members of the Township of Grant Fire Department, the burgers will be available until they sell out, and customers will want to make sure they claim their place in the queue before until the food runs out.

From 4 p.m. to midnight, there will be another opportunity to enter the Ferris wheel and pull rods, as well as another chance to enjoy live music from Opposite sidewhich will occur from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Scheduled for Sunday, August 14, a breakfast buffet presented by the Sno-Goers, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Meanwhile, arts and crafts will return at 10 a.m., the end time of which is yet to be determined.

Among the events starting at noon on the last day of the 2022 festival will be the concession sale of That’s My Dawg until 5 p.m.; the opening of the beer tent, available until 6 p.m.; the Big Wheel & Pull Tabs fun that will continue until 4 p.m.; and walk-in bingo at the center, also running until 4 p.m.

The sale of Firemen’s Famous Hamburgers will also resume at noon and will be offered while supplies last.

New to the Sand Lake Summer Family Festival this year, old-fashioned children’s games are scheduled from noon to 2 p.m.

Music will also be provided by DJ Justified Entertainment, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., during which prize draws will take place at 5 p.m.
