Queen Elizabeth to celebrate 70 years on the throne with all-star concert and other events

Queen Elizabeth has plans made as she enters her 70th year on the throne this summer. In February, the Queen will become the first British monarch to celebrate her Platinum Jubilee, surpassing Queen Victoria’s 63-year reign. To mark the occasion, dozens of events, including a concert of stars, a competition, a parade, a pastry competition supervised by The Great British Bake-Off fame Mary Berry among others have been announced.

According to Variety, the events also include a Thanksgiving service at St Paul’s Cathedral, street parties across the UK as well as the lighting of 1,500 beacons across the country. For non-scientists, the Queen ascended to the throne on February 6, 1952, after the death of George VI from coronary thrombosis.

Queen Elizabeth to Celebrate Platinum Jubilee with Exquisite Events

  • The BBC’s Platinum Night at the Palace – Buckingham Palace will see some of the most distinguished artists perform in a concert which will be broadcast live on the BBC. People will have access to the tickets via a ballot, however, the artist lineup has yet to be revealed.
  • The Platinum Jubilee Pageant – Also called the ‘Festival of Creativity’, the event will see dancers, musicians and performers from across the UK and the Commonwealth tell the story of the Queen’s reign.
  • The Platinum Pudding Competition – A national pastry competition will be hosted by Buckingham Palace Chef Mark Flanagan and Chef fame Monica Galetti in order to find the best prepared dessert to commemorate the jubilee. All UK residents over the age of eight can apply.
  • Platinum Jubilee Celebration – A theatrical treat featuring 1,000 performers, 500 horses as well as a myriad of musicians, artists and dancers will take viewers through British history, starting with Elizabeth I.
  • The Queen’s Birthday Parade – Queen Elizabeth II will be held on the balcony with relevant members of the Royal Family. Thousands of soldiers, numerous horses and musicians will strut around The Mall to commemorate the occasion.

In addition to the aforementioned events, a one-of-a-kind public holiday has also been created, where UK residents will enjoy a four-day long weekend in the first week of June.
