OSWEGO – Mayor Billy Barlow announced yesterday, Friday, November 4, that the City of Oswego will host several events and initiatives throughout the holiday season to encourage local shopping, promote downtown businesses, provide activities for young people and stimulate the holiday spirit.
The announcement includes the lighting of the recently announced downtown Christmas tree on November 26.
“The holiday season is a special time here in the City of Oswego and we have developed a set of special events and initiatives to really focus on bringing more spirit and excitement to our community. this year,” Barlow said. “This holiday season will be the first ‘normal’ season after the pandemic, so we hope these programs and events really have a positive impact in restoring the traditional spirit of local holidays.”
City of Oswego Upcoming Holiday Programs and Events
Holiday Coloring Contest – The Oswego Youth Bureau is hosting a coloring contest that has been distributed to local students in grades K-6 in the Oswego City School District. Entries are due November 10 and winners will be announced at the tree lighting ceremony.
Holiday Open House – November 13 – 12-5 p.m. Small Business Holiday Open House – kick off the holiday shopping season with local businesses inviting customers to check out holiday specials
Holiday History Store Opening – November 26 The downtown Oswego Visitor Center at 201 West First Street will be converted into a history store open Thursday through Saturday from noon to 7 p.m. showing the local history “featuring local historical societies and several non-profit organizations”
Small Business Saturday November 26 – Many businesses and restaurants in the Oswego community will be offering specials and offers on in-store merchandise and items
City of Oswego Tree Lighting and Fireworks Celebration – November 26 – Celebrate in front of City Hall from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with fun and festive activities, a visit from Santa , a live show, the 6:00 p.m. tree lighting, with fireworks over the Oswego River at 6:05 p.m.
Santa Slow Roll – December 2 and 3 – The Oswego Youth Bureau along with the Oswego Fire Department will once again host the popular Santa Slow Roll as Santa navigates a fire truck through the neighborhoods of Oswego. ‘Oswego. Santa Claus will visit the east side of the city on Friday evening (12/2) and the west side on Saturday evening (December 3). The slow rolling begins at dusk. Late Night Shopping – December 16? – Participating Oswego small businesses will be open until 11 p.m. to accommodate late-night shoppers.
Santa Polar Express – December 18 – The Oswego Youth Bureau will host Santa’s Polar Express train. Similar to the Santa Slow Roll, Santa Claus will travel the Polar Express through the city during the day with a 3 p.m. departure time.
