TULSA, Oklahoma. – In a surprise announcement Monday, July 19, punk rock-turned-mainstream rocker group Green Day will perform for an exclusively vaccinated crowd at Cain’s Ballroom in Tulsa, Oklahoma on Tuesday, July 20.

The show sold out quickly, with tickets on sale at 10:00 a.m.

The group calls it a warm-up show ahead of their Hella Mega Tour with Fall Out Boy and Weezer which begins Saturday in Dallas.

Due to an increase in COVID-19 cases caused by the Delta variant in the state earlier and the event taking place indoors, proof of vaccination will be required for entry. According to a press release from the event, the date of the last injection for spectators must be no later than July 6.

Exclusively vaccinated events could be a trend in the future if the battle for gunfire continues, especially in rural areas in the south.

Currently, only 39.5% of the entire population of Oklahoma have been fully immune to the virus, according to CDC data. Oklahoma health officials have pleaded with the public to get vaccinated in areas that have experienced reluctance.

Republican officials in Oklahoma last week sent a letter to Gov. Kevin Stitt asking him to take immediate action to block mandatory vaccines for health care workers in the state. Lawmakers are also trying to pass several bills blocking “vaccine passports” in the last legislative session. Not all bills were passed.
