BLYTHEWOOD, SC – Gather your family and livestock because the Blythewood Autumn Festival and Rodeo come back this weekend with a new location.
This time it’s at 10433 Wilson Blvd.
Cowboy hats, curls, cattle and even mechanical bulls – are on the must-see list at Blythewood Rodeo.
“We have saddleback riding, bareback riding, tie-down, steer wrestling, roping breakaway, barrel racing for cowgirls and, of course bull riding,” said rodeo organizer Buck Coggins.
Kyle Lamon knows all about that last part. He is better known as “Hashtag”, the rodeo clown.
“My job is to entertain the crowd and hope everyone walks away with smiling faces and positive vibes,” Lamon said.
That cheer and joy goes beyond the pitch and onto phone screens as well. Lamon shares his flips and tricks from every rodeo on TikTok.
“There are 52 weeks in a year and 43 rodeo weekends,” Lamon said.
As far as competitive events go, it’s a hot weekend. Buck Coggins said six world champions are vying for the titles this weekend.
“At the end of the season, every dollar is worth a point for these cowboys and cowgirls and they’re all trying to get the national titles,” he said.
The rodeo started Friday and reopened Saturday at 5:30 p.m. Competitions began at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $16 for adults, $10 for ages 6-12, and free for children under 5 .
