A light-hearted AquaFest & Luau takes its place on the St. Clair Shores summer celebration calendar this Sunday, with lakeside entertainment ranging from a dog-jumping event to a watermelon-eating contest among other attractions family.
The fun is centered at Blossom Heath Park on Jefferson Avenue, just south of 10 Mile Road, from noon to 7 p.m.
But organizers say the festival is designed to showcase the collection of restaurants, marinas and specialty shops along the Nautical Mile, as Jefferson between the Nine Mile and 10 Mile roads is known.
“It’s a great family event with free entertainment and a chance for people to have something to experience on a Sunday,” said Henry Bowman, city parks manager.
• Steel drum bands

The event used to be a two-day celebration, but the promoters have since decided to consolidate everything into one day.
Sunday will be a good day at Lake St. Clair, as the National Weather Service calls for mostly sunny skies, with highs near 92 degrees. There is a 30% chance of showers after 2 p.m.
The Nautical Mile’s flagship event is organized with the support of the city, multiple sponsorships from the business community and the efforts of volunteers. Sponsors include Bryan Owens, Little Caesars, Nautical Mile Association, Lincoln Property Maintenance, Michael Agnello Jewelers and Faygo.
