Birmingham is home to many animal shelters and rescues. If you’re looking for a way to give back and help animals in need, here are five fundraising events that are perfect for you.

1. ‘Tails on the trails 2021

Are you feeling wild? Then meet at Birmingham Zoo on Friday October 1 for the 11th edition of Tails in the Trails switch off.

To benefit the zoo’s future Cougar Crossing Habitat, the outdoor celebration includes:

  • Beer, wine + specialty cocktails
  • Foodies’ favorites at local restaurants
  • Live music by Nationwide Coverage
  • Online auctions

* This is a 21+ event.

2. Putts for the legs

Do you care about the Greater Birmingham Humane Society (GBHS)? Now is a great time to show your support.

On Friday October 8, join the GBHS Young Professionals Board for the Putt for Paws Golf Tournament at Highland Park Golf Course.

Those present have the chance to:

  • Play 18 hole golf
  • Well done during the awards ceremony
  • Bidding at silent auction

3. Katoberfest

Prepare to say meow because Katoberfest will take place on Thursday October 14th at Cahaba Brewing Company.

Inspired by the traditional Bavarian Oktoberfest, this cat-loving event benefits Kitty Kat Haven & Rescue and Gatos and Beans.

During the event, expect:

  • Cahaba Brewery’s Oktoberfest-style seasonal food and beer
  • Live music by Birmingham band Margeaux and the Cats Meow
  • Gatos and Beans Tours
  • Sellers with a variety of goods
  • Raffles with great gifts + services

4. Barktoberfest

Let me hear these screams because Barktoberfest is back this year on Sunday October 17th at the Helena Amphitheater.

For the benefit of Two by Two Rescue, the event highlights the organization’s mission with on-site adoptions, a vaccine clinic and microchips.

In addition to the possibility of adopting an animal in need, many activities will be offered, including:

  • Activities for children
  • Food trucks
  • Hay walks
  • Off-leash dog park
  • Sellers

New this year:

  • Dog & Masquerade Master Competition
  • Live entertainment from Dance Et Cetera and local singer-songwriter Chase Stewart at the Leonard Watkins Band

5. Barking in the park

Bark in the Park for the benefit of the Shelby Humane Society is back on Saturday November 6 for its 15th year.

Held at Veteran’s Park in Alabaster, there’s a busy schedule with everything from vendors and food trucks to a pet costume contest and Santa Claus.

The best part: adoptable pets. If you are looking for a sweet family addition, be sure to attend the event.
